At STRIDE, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to experience the joy, strength, and healing that come from partnering with a horse. Our therapeutic riding lessons are designed to build confidence, improve coordination, and foster independence—all within a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
Lesson Details

Lesson Duration:
Each session is approximately one hour, including time for grooming, saddling, and riding. We believe every part of the experience—from brushing a horse to taking the reins—helps riders grow in confidence and connection.
Group Size:
Lessons are taught in small groups of up to four riders, allowing for individualized instruction while building social skills and teamwork.
Age & Weight Guidelines:
- Riders must be 6 years or older
- Weight limit: 220 lbs.
Rider Requirements
For the safety and comfort of both horses and participants, riders must be able to sit up unassisted. This ability helps ensure proper balance, stability, and communication with the horse during lessons. STRIDE’s team will work with each individual to create a supportive experience that matches their abilities and goals. These guidelines help ensure the safety and comfort of both our riders and our horses.

FAQ Section
Do riders need special equipment or clothing to participate?
Yes, participants need to wear long pants and boots/shoes with at least a one inch heel. They will also be required to wear an ASTM certified riding helmet. Helmets and a limited selection of boots are available for beginning riders.
How does a person sign up to become a STRIDE rider?
New riders begin with an Initial Rider Assessment, which helps our STRIDE team match each participant with the most suitable horse and volunteer team for a safe, positive, and rewarding experience.
